John
Boozer
has always had a keen interest in
the arts, but like many others he waited until his career was well established
and his family raised before giving serious study to his lifelong
love--watercolor.
At age 47,
while living in California, he began studying with
Jade Fon, the renowned San Francisco Bay Area watercolorist. Through his
Diablo Valley College following and his nationally known
Asilomar Watercolor
Workshop, the late Jade Fon probably influenced more California watercolor
artists than any other single person. In addition to Fon, Boozer has been
influenced most through study with
Gerald
Brommer and Tom Lynch.
Boozer's
paintings represent a variety of subject matter, but whether a landscape, a
floral or a beach scene, he strives through the pastel quality of his work to
develop a "quiet and uncluttered" mood with the viewer.
"My goal, he says,
is to create something in a painting with which viewers can relate and make them
feel good about what they see." A work of art, he contends, "is like an
expression of love-- it should not have to be explained."
Boozer is
retired with over 35 years with the Federal Government. Upon his retirement he
was the Deputy Regional Administrator with the Southeast Regional Office of the
U. S. Department of Agriculture's Food and Nutrition Service in Atlanta, a
position he also held for 15 years in the Western Region.
A native of
Kentucky, he resides near Clarkesville and Mount Airy, GA, with his wife Peggy.
They have three daughters and three grandchildren.
